“MIX Lamp” is a unique mood lamp that is inspired by an analog lantern.
The lamp itself is portable, customizable and rotatable. Users are able to mix different color chips in order to create their own mood. The concept of the product generated from the idea of combining wall lights and painting on canvases.
The goal of the project was to provide an experience for the users to fully engage with and appreciate the beauty of colors and lights, taking a different take on a heavily digital-based world today.

Everything is too convenient today.
It is amazing to see the rapid advancement of technology these days, changing people’s lifestyles and habits. On the other hand, people tend to forget to slow down and appreciate the process of engaging with their surrounding environments, which often leads to lack in creativity.

Initial Inspirations
Light and color are the biggest contributors in creating the mood of an environment. It is fascinating to notice the diverse feelings and moods created by mixture of different lights and colors in the exact same space.
What if the activity of mixing colors and lights became like brushing paint on canvases?
Ideations and Form Developments
The overall design of the lamp was inspired by lanterns, which brings an analog nostalgia. The main goal was to successfully combine the forms of the past with modern technology.
Choice of Design and CAD
After a thorough process of ideations, a final design was chosen. To visualize the design, a 3D model of the lamp was created in Rhinoceros.
Real Light Testing
Since the project was undertaken during COVID-19, there were difficulties in building an actual model of the lamp. Therefore, to gain a better visual sense of how the lamp will light in different colors, real light testing with acetate took place.
